Our Approach
AVP offers interactive experience-based workshops that help us to become more aware of the violence in our lives and how we can find creative, rather than destructive, ways of resolving conflicts.
AVP offers alternatives to violence such as:
• Building trust and self esteem
• Exploring methods of communication
• Developing cooperation
• Encouraging creative conflict resolution

Skill building workshops accessible to the wider community.
Basic & Advanced levels available.
Training for Facilitators (T4F)
Participants in the Basic & Advanced community workshops may be invited to Train as a Facilitator to continue AVP’s valuable work.
In Prisons
AVP volunteers receive specialist training to conduct workshops in Prisons.
Community Workshop – Basic
In a Basic Workshop, guided experiences and exercises focus on Affirmation, Communication, Co-operation, Community Building, Trust and Conflict Resolution.

Highlights:
- Effective Communication: Learn to express your needs and listen to others without escalating tensions.
- Negotiation Skills: Master the art of negotiation to reach mutually beneficial agreements.
- Emotional Intelligence: Understand and manage emotions to keep conflicts from spiralling out of control.
- Practical Exercises: Participate in role-playing scenarios and group activities to practise skills.
Community Workshop – Advanced
Those who have completed a Basic course are invited to participate in an Advanced level workshop. Some common themes explored are: Fear, Anger, Self Control, Empathy, Power and Powerlessness and Forgiveness.

Training for Facilitators Workshop
This course provides participants with the support and skills necessary to become facilitators to help with this valuable work in schools, prisons and the community.

Community &Training Workshops
Community & Training Workshops are over two days, typically arranged at the weekend for convenience. Workshops run from 9am – 5pm, with morning and afternoon tea provided.
